The Bacolod City government is actively pushing for the city to be designated as a Regional Training Center for archery, baseball, and football to further bolster its local sports development.
Mayor Greg Gasataya said on Monday that Bacolod has consistently shown excellence in archery and baseball, making the city a prime candidate for such a designation.
Gasataya said the initiative aims to centralize elite sports training in the region, ensuring that local athletes have access to the resources needed to compete at national and international levels.
The mayor shared that the baseball fields located at Paglaum Elementary School and Paglaum Village National High School have already passed the assessment conducted by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
“We are hopeful that there’s a big possibility for Bacolod City to become a regional training center,” Gasataya said.
He also highlighted the city’s football program alongside the ongoing rehabilitation of the football pitch at the Bacolod City National High School to meet standard requirements. Should the proposal be approved, Gasataya said the national government through the PSC would take a direct role by providing professional training, coaches, and necessary infrastructure upgrades.*
