Bacolod fisherfolk, farmers affected by Typhoon Tino to receive aid

The City Agriculture Office (CAO) in coordination with the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD), has facilitated the validation of more than 340 fisherfolk, including 20 farmers, who were severely affected by Typhoon Tino, in 19 barangays in the city, a press release from the Bacolod City Communications Office said.

City Agriculture officer-in-charge Maricar Quiro said the P10,000 financial assistance forms part of the Sustainable Livelihood Program, particularly intended for fisherfolk whose pump boats and fish pens were totally destroyed by the calamity.

A total of P3.4 million from local government funds will be allocated for the assistance, in line with Mayor Greg Gasataya’s commitment to support fisherfolk and farmer organizations in Bacolod City.

After the onslaught of Typhoon Tino last November, the mayor immediately directed the City Administrator’s Office, in coordination with the DSSD, to facilitate the distribution of food packs, including donated relief goods from private organizations, to 34 fisherfolk and farmer organizations in the city.

“Since our resources are limited, we prioritized the validation of fisherfolk whose livelihoods were severely affected by the typhoon, hoping they can recover as soon as the funds are released,” Quiro stressed.

The DSSD will facilitate the payout for qualified fisherfolk and farmer beneficiaries from Barangays 1, 2, 10, 13, 14, 16, 35, Banago, Pahanocoy, Punta Taytay, Singcang-Airport, Sum-ag, Tangub,  Villamonte, Vista Alegre, Alangilan, Cabug, Granada and Handumanan.

Beneficiaries were advised to bring a valid ID, community tax certificate (cedula), and an indigency certificate from their respective barangays during the validation.*
