Bacolod garbage men banned from soliciting cash

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

The Bacolod City government has issued a warning against its personnel, particularly garbage collectors, after receiving reports that they have been soliciting money or distributing envelopes while on duty, especially during the month of December.

City Administrator Atty. Mark Steven Mayo confirmed the reports and said that the local government strictly prohibits all employees from asking for money or engaging in any form of solicitation.

This prohibition stands regardless of whether the collectors are under the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office or a private contractor.

Mayo said that a penalty can be imposed to the job order employees, such as termination, while the private contractors have their own policy.

The city administrator added that employees must not use their official position or the name of the city for personal gain.

He also urged residents to report the workers who are asking for money to the city government and added that a drop box is available for those who want to remain anonymous.*
