City Administrator Atty. Mark Steven Mayo confirmed that the Bacolod local government unit has officially authorized seasonal fruit vending in three strategic locations across the city to accommodate the holiday rush.
Following an endorsement from the local market committee and approval from the City Council, vendors are permitted to set up their own stalls on Burgos Street near Burgos Market, Hernaez Street in Libertad, and Gonzaga Street at the Public Plaza.
Thirty to 40 slots are available in each of the designated areas.
The areas are open for business from December 15 through December 31, with vendors required to follow specific guidelines regarding orderliness and cleanliness.
As of December 17, official records indicate that 93 vendors have already secured special permits, consisting of 27 sellers each for the Gonzaga and Burgos areas and 39 vendors for the Hernaez location.
Meanwhile, a total of 62 retailers began selling firecrackers at the Pope John Paul II reclamation area on Wednesday, after securing the necessary business permits.
The authorized sales at the designated site are scheduled to run until December 31.
Mayo also urged the public to practice ‘safety first’ and avoid lighting firecrackers near residential and crowded areas.*
