Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday said he sees no major problem in the construction of the Bacolod City General Hospital and that he believes that its construction could start this year.

Leonardia said that during their initial meeting with the Department of Health (DOH), the City Health Office (CHO) and the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) presented the concept of the new CHO which will occupy 1.5 hectares of the 3.5-hectare property donated by the Gensoli family in Brgy. VIsta Alegre for the construction of the hospital.

“In our next meeting, we asked them to present the physical structure of the facility so they could estimate and reconcile the shape and size of the hospital so it will fit into the donated lot,” he said.

Leonardia said they will have another meeting with the DOH next week.

Bacolod Rep. Gasataya said he hopes that the technical study on the perspective of the hospital’s floor plan and other engineering requirements will be finished so that the project could be bid out by the national government and its construction could start right away.

Gasataya said the hospital has an allocated budget of P350 million for its construction. He has requested the P250 million from the DOH while Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri committed another P200 million.*
