To cope with the existing issue of proper solid waste management, Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya urged IPM-Construction Development Corporation (IPM-CDC), the contractor that manages the landfill in Barangay Felisa, to expedite the establishment of the Bacolod Integrated Recycling and Technological Hub (BIRTH).
The city eyed that the said facility is beneficial to the initiative on waste disposal, as it will help to reduce the residual garbage that was being delivered to the landfill.
Gasataya, together with Councilor Homer Bais, committee chairman on environment, City Administrator Atty. Mark Mayo, and other department heads, yesterday conducted an inspection at the sanitary landfill in Brgy. Felisa to determine possible improvements of the facility for the city’s solid waste management.
Based on the inspection, a particular landfill cell was said to have 6 months left before it will be totally filled, leading Gasataya to urge the management to build the BIRTH faster.
“We have urged the management of our sanitary landfill to fast-track the construction of the Bacolod Integrated Recycling and Technological Hub, which will drastically improve our recycling efforts and reduce our residual waste once completed,” Gasataya said in a social media post.
Gasataya also vowed to find ways that will address the safety and health of the people residing near the sanitary landfill.*
