Bacolod LGU assists farmers, fisherfolk on gov’t subsidies

Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya led a consultation and validation meeting for accredited farmers’ organizations and fisherfolk associations under the Presidential Assistance for Farmers and Fisherfolk Program (PAFFP) on April 1, a press release from the Bacolod City Communications Office said.

Gasataya emphasized the need for careful planning to maximize government support amid limited resources.

The activity included screening participants to ensure only eligible beneficiaries were included, with verification of farmer registration under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) and boat registration for fisherfolk. It also served as a venue for participants to raise concerns and clarify program guidelines, promoting transparency and inclusivity.

The mayor assured attendees that the city will find ways to assist those who are accredited and validated but not eligible for national government financial assistance under existing policies.

“We place great importance on proper planning to ensure that those who need assistance the most are prioritized. While government resources are limited, the city will continue to find ways to extend support, even to those who may not qualify under the program,” the mayor said.

DA-NIR Officer-in-Charge for Field Operations Ramy Baylosis led the technical aspects of the activity, providing guidance to meet national program standards. City Agriculture Officer-in-Charge Maricar Quiro highlighted the coordinated validation process designed to prioritize the most vulnerable, while Councilor Thaddy Sayson urged organization leaders to strictly follow program rules.

Each qualified farmer and fisherfolk beneficiary will receive P2,325. The national government has allocated P10 billion to support millions of beneficiaries across the country, and the Department of Agriculture is fast-tracking the release of financial assistance.*
