Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya has ordered the deployment of “libre sakay” services across various areas in Bacolod City today, in response to the scheduled transport strike by members of the transport sector, a press release from the Bacolod City Communications Office said.
Identified routes for the free transportation services include: Bata, Banago, Singcang–Airport, Estefania, Paglaum Village–Mansilingan, and Cabug–Alijis.
Twelve vehicles, which include those of BTTMD, DRRMO, and the City bus, will be used in providing mobility for residents affected by the strike.
Libre Sakay vehicles will be deployed at 6:30 a.m. and will leave from pick-up points at 7: a.m. with two trips. The said vehicles will again be deployed at around 5 p.m. with two trips to accommodate commuters during peak hours.
The city government also calls on participants of the transport strike to conduct their activities peacefully, similar to previous protests.
“We appeal to our fellow citizens who will participate in tomorrow’s transport strike to express their concerns peacefully. Everyone has the right to voice their stand and advocate for issues they believe in,” the mayor said.
He added that despite the transport strike, government operations will continue as scheduled tomorrow.
The city government assures the public of its continued efforts to maintain order and provide essential services during this time.*
