BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

Winning candidates of Team Asenso led by mayor-elect Albee Benitez will hold their official oathtaking on June 27 in Bacolod City, councilor-elect Jason Villarosa said yesterday.

Villarosa said they will also invite the winning candidates of Grupo Progreso to join if they are willing. They have no final venue for the event yet.

He, together with Benitez, re-elected Councilor Simple Distrito, councilor-elect Vladimir Gonzales, and Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya had earlier taken their oath before Singcang Brgy. Captain Rosinie Distrito since it is in Singcang where they have garnered a very big lead, he said.

Villarosa said they will officially assume their post noon of June 30.  They will then be choosing their preferred committees and in his case, he would like to chair the Committees on ICT and Tourism.

He wants to spearhead the Committee on ICT because he hopes to innovate the system in government by implementing computer programming that will link all systems to help the processing of business permits available online, as well as make all other transactions paperless, he said.

Villarosa said he also hopes to chair the Committee on Tourism because as a youth leader, he wants to bring entertainment to Bacolod City citing the performances of local and Manila bands enjoyed by the people in the past months like the Sunset Festival.

“So l hope to implement that as well in the coming MassKara Festival and also highlight the different festivals in Bacolod,” he added.

Villarosa, 24, is said to be the youngest elected councilor of Bacolod. He was Sangguniang Kabataan chairman of Brgy. Sum-ag.

Meanwhile, the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod approved a resolution expressing its profound gratitude to the outgoing councilors of Bacolod City for their selfless and dedicated service during their entire stint as members of the SP, during its regular session yesterday.

They are Councilor Wilson Gamboa, Jr., who ran for vice mayor during the May 9 election, Councilors Dindo Ramos, Bartolome Orola Sr., Carlos Jose Lopez, Archie Baribar, and last-termer Councilor Ana Marie Palermo.*
