Bacolod City successfully planted 5,000 mangrove seedlings along its coastline on Saturday, with the participation of 800 Public Employment Service Office scholars at Barangay Punta Taytay.
Mayor Greg Gasataya said that the mangroves will serve as new shields for Bacolodnons living along the coast and are a vital habitat for wildlife.
“We also have to fast track activities to preserve our environment, especially here in the city of Bacolod,” he said.
Following recent calamities, the strengthening of natural defenses was described as even more essential to secure the future of coastal residents.
The initiative is in partnership with the NOHS Batch ’84 and the Bacolod City Water District.*
