The Bacolod City Government on Tuesday released the first batch of allowance assistance to 814 city scholars under the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) program, with each beneficiary receiving P3,000 as part of Mayor Greg Gasataya’s ongoing commitment to support students, a press release from the Bacolod City Communications Office said.
The December 24 distribution was fast-tracked ahead of Christmas to provide timely financial aid for scholars’ immediate academic and personal needs during the holiday season.
PESO-Bacolod coordinator Jovelyn Canoy reminded the scholars to value their slots, noting the program’s high competitiveness.
“Out of more than 7,000 applicants, you were chosen. This is a privilege and a responsibility. We hope you will give importance to your slots, follow the program guidelines, and continue serving the community,” Canoy said.
Gasataya, speaking via phone call, wished the scholars a Merry Christmas and explained the payout was rushed to reach them before the holidays. He clarified that this covers the first batch, with additional releases planned.
A total of over P2.4 million was allocated for the allowance assistance for the 814 scholars.*
