An ordinance establishing the Bacolod Run, creating the Bacolod Run Council, defining its functions and responsibilities, and appropriating funds, was passed by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod on first reading yesterday.
The ordinance authored by Councilor Em Ang and co-authored by Councilor Claudio Puentevella said the Bacolod City Government recognizes the promotion of health and welfare of its people as one of the primary concerns of the city by increasing awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyle among the general public.
The Bacolod City Government aims to promote a healthy and physically-active community. It recognizes the growing community of runners within the city, it said
The Bacolod City Government sees the great benefits of organizing an annual marathon. Cities that host annual marathon events enjoy a boost in the local economy, particularly hotels, restaurants, and retail stores, due to the influx of visitors who either spectate or participate in such events, the ordinance said.
The Ordinance to be known as the Bacolod Run Ordinance, provides for the creation of the Bacolod Run Council which will be composed of the City Mayor as chairperson, SP Committee on Youth and Sports Development chairperson – vice chairperson, and members composed of the chairpersons of the SP Committee of Health, Committee on Tourism, City Tourism Officer, Local Economic Development & Investment Promotions Officer, City Legal Officer, City Budget Officer, City Treasurer, and three representatives from running clubs or organizations.
The Council will appoint a run director to manage the operations of the marathon, it said.
The Bacolod Run will be held on the month of February of each year, the resolution said.*
