The construction of Cell No. 5 at the Bacolod Sanitary Landfill in Barangay Felisa has reached 75 percent completion, outpacing its original construction timeline since breaking ground in January.
Solid Waste Integrated Management – Specialists Operations Manager Mario Sandil confirmed that the facility is now expected to be finished by the second week of June, instead of October.
Spanning two hectares, the new cell is designed to accommodate the city’s waste for the next two to three years.
The city’s sanitary landfill has been recognized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environment Management Bureau as a model facility nationwide.
“We just did the right component and system on how to perform the activity twice the system of the category 4 landfill,” Sandil said.*
