Preparations are underway for a major international sporting event as the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) formalized coordination with the city government of Bacolod for the upcoming Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) Women’s Tournament this June.
SBP Executive Director Erika Caitlin Dy led a courtesy call and coordination meeting with Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya to firm up preparations, logistics, and partnerships for the successful staging of the international tournament, which will feature six Southeast Asian teams, including Philippines’ national team.
Accompanying Dy were SBP Technical Head Andrew Teh, SBP Zone 7 Director Tony Agustin, Assistant Zone Directors Dexter Dy and Nico Lopingco, Negros Occidental Provincial Director Mark Jomalesa, along with other Zone 7 staff, according to a press release.
Representing the city government, City Administrator Atty. Mark Mayo welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed Bacolod’s readiness to host international events, highlighting the city’s growing reputation as a hub for sports and tourism in the Negros Island Region.
The SEABA Women’s Tournament will bring together top basketball teams from across Southeast Asia, offering Bacolod an opportunity to showcase not only its sporting facilities but also its culture, hospitality, and local economy.
Dy emphasized the importance of strong local government support in delivering a successful tournament, noting that Bacolod City’s commitment strengthens the Philippines’ position as a capable host of international basketball events.
City officials, in turn, expressed full support for the tournament, citing its potential to boost tourism, engage the local community, and inspire young athletes, especially women, to pursue sports.
Further coordination meetings are expected in the coming weeks to finalize venues, security, accommodations, and event programming.
