Bacolod solo parents receive cash subsidy

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

A total of 936 qualified beneficiaries of the Solo Parents Welfare Program in Bacolod City received a payout of P6,000 cash subsidy at the Bacolod City Government Center yesterday.

According to the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) head Dr. Richelle Verdeprado-Mangga, the aid covers P1,000 per month for the period of January to June 2025.

She explained that while Bacolod has 2,006 registered solo parents, only those who are minimum wage earners and below are qualified for the subsidy, in accordance with Republic Act 11861.

Another 564 solo parents are currently undergoing verification by the DSSD.

“It’s part of their rights and privileges as solo parents so they can have additional support from the government because we know that raising a child is not easy, especially if you are alone,” Verdeprado-Mangga said.

She added that beneficiaries who have booklets can avail discounts in diapers, medicines, and milk.

The solo parents can be verified by being vouched by their respected barangay officials.

In addition, Mayor Greg Gasataya announced that 15 scholarship slots from the Public Employment Service Office will be open to the children of solo parents who are currently enrolled as first years in private colleges.*
