A resolution expressing deep sympathy and sincere condolences to the family, friends, and admirers of national artist Nora Aunor upon her untimely passing, was approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod City Wednesday.
Authored by Councilor Em Ang, SP Committee on History, Art and Culture chairman, the resolution said national artist Nora Aunor (Nora Cabaltera Villamayor in real life), fondly known as “Ate Guy” and the “Superstar” of Philippine cinema, is one of the greatest Filipino actresses of all time. Her splendid career spanning 50 years has left an indelible mark on the country’s entertainment industry with her remarkable talent, perseverance, and dedication to her craft.
Aunor’s body of work, comprising over 170 films, numerous stage productions, music, records, and concerts both here and abroad, showcased her versatility and range as a performer, earning her numerous national and international awards, including the prestigious National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts in 2020, it said.
In 1992, Aunor was elevated to the FAMAS Hall of Fame. She was given the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAF) Lifetime Achievement Award the following year. In 1999, she was awarded the Centennial Honors for the Arts by the Cultural Center of the Philippines as one of the 100 Filipinos who have made significant contributions to culture and the arts in the 20th century. In November 2012, she won the coveted Best Actress Award from 6th Asia Pacific Screen Awards, and consequently became the first Filipino actor to be inducted as a member of Asia Pacific Screen Academy. She also won Best Actress at the 7th Asian Film Awards, the resolution said.
Her iconic roles in films such as “Himala”, “Minsa’y Isang Gamu-gamo”, and “Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos” continue to inspire and influence new generations of artists and filmmakers, it added.*
