The Sangguniang Panlungsod deferred a resolution declaring Kevin L. Tan as an adopted son of Bacolod City, during its session Wednesday pending the submission of a formal request from the mayor.
Bacolod Councilor Jason Isidro Villarosa said they hope to take up next week the resolution he proposed upon the submission of a formal request from the Office of the Mayor, as requested by Councilor Jude Thaddeus Sayson.
The proposed resolution said Tan is the CEO and vice of Alliance Global Inc., a holding company that includes real estate through Megaworld Corporation, hospitality and property management through Travellers International Hotel Group Inc., and liqour through Emperador Inc.
Businessman and investor Kevin L. Tan, who took over the family business after retirement of his father, Dr. Andrew Tan, have targeted numerous cities to invest in, it said.
As president of Megaworld Real Estate Investment Trust (MREIT), Tan has been instrumental in his investment in the City of Bacolod and thus, the impact of the corporation’s investments to the advancement to the economic growth of the city cannot be understated, the resolution said.
His notable future goals include employment to over 5 million Filipinos and shifting his company to become carbon neutral by 2035, it added.*
