The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod City extended its deepest sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family of Ninfa Ramos Leonardia, who peacefully joined her Creator on August 23 at the age of 89, during its regular session yesterday.
The resolution authored by Councilor Em Ang said Ninfa Leonardia, the elder sister of former Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia, was the editor-in-chief and president of The Visayan Daily Star, a renowned print media institution in the city.
She had also served as the first woman president of the Negros Press Club, the oldest press club in the country, it said.
Bacolod City lost one of the most distinguished members of the press, who was not afraid to report the truth and share intelligent and well-studied opinions on important issues and events. She was a principled and excellent writer who advocated many causes and promoted them through her daily column “Twinkling”, the resolution said.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod City deeply mourns the passing of Ninfa Leonardia. May this resolution, together with the outpouring expressions of heartfelt deep sympathy and condolences from relatives, friends and the constituents and officials of Bacolod City, bring refuge and comfort to her bereaved family in this low and trying point of their life, it added.*
