The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod recently passed a resolution urging the Bacolod City College (BCC) and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) thru the Office of Mayor Alfredo Abelardo to strictly implement City Ordinance No. 533, Series of 2011.
C.O. No. 533, s 2011 or an “Ordinance Institutionalizing Arbor Day in the City of Bacolod, enjoining the participation of everybody and requiring city scholars or summer jobber students and students of BCC to plant at least 10 seedlings every year”, was passed on April 13, 2011, with the purpose of instilling in the minds of the youth the love for the environment by encouraging them to plant at least 10 seedlings every year especially in the months of June, July, August and September of each year, authored by Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran when he was a councilor.
The resolution said that around the world, global climate change is a pressing concern. As trees grow, they help absorb and sink the carbon that would otherwise contribute to global heating. In addition to the carbon dioxide trees capture, they also help the soil capture and store carbon thus, trees are extremely important to help stop climate change.
The resolution was authored by Councilor Em Ang and co-authored by Councilors Cindy Rojas, Israel Salanga, Renecito Novero, Lady Gles Pallen and Ayesha Joy Villafor.
Meanwhile, the SP also passed a resolution declaring August 25 to 31 as “Soroptimist Week” in the City of Bacolod.
The resolution was also authored by Ang.*
