The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is endorsing and strongly supporting the passage into law of House Bill No. 291 introduced by Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya.
The resolution authored by Bacolod Councilor Vladimir Gonzales is requesting the House of Representatives for the passage of H.B. 291, or an Act creating the Bacolod City Ports Authority, into law, citing that Bacolod had been a chartered city since 1938 and had always been one of the most progressive regional cities in the country and is the gateway of Sugarlandia.
It said that despite the increasing number of ports, wharves, docks and harbors operating in Bacolod City, which had been bringing in millions if not billions in revenue to city and national government, there is no singular government body that determines policy, set strategic direction and regulates the activities of these port facilities in Bacolod.
Through this resolution, the City of Bacolod led by Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, thru the SP, favorably endorse and strongly support the passage into law of H.B 291 and earnestly request the members of the House of Representatives to consider as urgent its passage intended to bring about rapid development, significant economic impact and also promote the general welfare of Bacolod City and its constituents including the Province of Negros Occidental and the entire Negros Island, it added.*
