The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod yesterday approved a resolution requesting Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez to reconsider the request of the president of the Bacolod Integration Federation of PWD (persons with disability) Associations, Inc. (BIFPA), to extend the deadline for the issuance of new PWD IDs.
BIFPA president Napoleon Saron had written the SP to intervene on their behalf, in relation to Memorandum No. 030, dated February 5, issued by the mayor on requiring PWDs to secure new PWD IDs with QR Code from Feb. 12 to 29, after which all unexpired PWD IDs will be invalid.
The resolution was authored by Councilor Simplicia Distrito.
Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran pointed out during the session that there are about 12,000 PWDs recorded in Bacolod and that the service centers of the city at SM City Bacolod and the Ayala Malls Capitol Central can only accommodate a maximum of 50 applicants each per day.
Benitez ordered the recall of all PWD ID cards issued in Bacolod City, saying they are in the process of issuing new PWD ID cards only to qualified beneficiaries.*
