Bacolod SP urges BCDRRMD to strengthen training program

• CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

A resolution urging the Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Department (BCDRRMD) to strengthen its efforts in conducting trainings, orientations, and seminars for its responders and volunteers, with close coordination with barangays and private groups, was approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.

Authored by Councilor Jason Isidro Villarosa, the resolution said City Ordinance No. 1115, series of 2025, or “An Ordinance Elevating the Current Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office under the Office of the City Mayor into a Department,” was passed, expanding the organization of the then Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (BCDRRMO) for more efficient response during crisis and emergency responses.

As part of the expansion, Section 6 (a) of the ordinance lists down the functions of the divisions of the BCDRRMD which include, among others, to “organize and conduct training, orientation, and knowledge management activities on DRRM at the local level,” it said.

The City of Bacolod gives importance to the role of the BCDRRMD in the city’s preparedness in times of emergencies and disasters, the resolution said.

Considering the vital function of BCDRRMD, its members and volunteers must be continually equipped with renewed skills and knowledge necessary to deliver the required service with competence and appropriate strategy, it added.*
