Bacolod starts towing ops next week

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

The Bacolod City Government will implement towing operations next week, following the arrival of a tow truck purchased by the Bacolod Traffic and Transport Management Department (BTTMD).

In a media interview, Atty. Reuben Mikhail Sabig, Officer-in-Charge of the BTTMD said that enforcement will focus on designated towing zones.

Signages indicating clamping and towing zones will be installed, particularly near critical areas like hospitals.

The BTTMD will handle the operations internally, as the Local Government Unit currently has no third-party contractor.

Sabig mentioned that three personnel will operate the tow truck that will be accompanied by a striker group of the BTTMD, who will be in charge of clamping the vehicle.

The truck, worth around P5 million, can tow multiple motorcycles but can only carry one car at a time. The penalty will be based on the size of a vehicle towed.

Vehicles apprehended under the ordinance will be impounded at the BTTMD office in Barangay Alijis and will be relocated to the reclamation area once the debris dumped there after the clearing Typhoon debris is removed.

The enforcement plan also includes towing dilapidated vehicles left on the roadside and removing various obstructions found along the city’s bike lanes.*
