Bacolod to deploy large garbage bins

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

The Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) is scheduling the deployment of 24 large garbage bins from the Integrated Solid Waste Management System to selected barangays and homeowners’ associations to assist with local waste collection.

According to BENRO Officer-in-Charge Atty. Allyn Luv Dignadice, the inventory consists of 12 bins with a capacity of 12 cubic meters and 12 bins with a capacity of 22 cubic meters.

The initial allocation is planned for areas identified as needing additional waste collection support, including the Vista Alegre Relocation Site.

Recipient barangays and associations must sign a pledge of commitment to monitor the units and prevent them from developing into unregulated mini-dumpsites.

Officers from Yuhum Village in Barangay Vista Alegre have already signed the agreement, establishing localized monitoring protocols for their area.

The deployment strategy varies by area based on local capability and past waste management outcomes.

Dignadice said that Mansilingan declined the placement of new bins, reporting that existing local monitoring initiatives have successfully regulated waste disposal.

Requests for bin placements from Barangays Alijis, Handumanan, and Alangilan currently remain under evaluation.

BENRO confirmed that bins have been permanently removed from public markets, including Burgos Market.

Assessments showed that the large receptacles frequently attracted indiscriminate dumping rather than facilitating organized disposal.*
