Bacolod City will host the first-ever Negros Island Region Athletic Association Meet (NIRAAM) from March 1 to 6, as the Department of Education (DepEd) expects up to 8,000 delegates from across the region to participate.
Almyr Ceazar Dequiña, DepEd NIR spokesman, disclosed that there will be 27 sporting events scheduled for the inaugural NIRAAM.
He added that there will be 12 delegations clustering the athletes. Each delegation will be composed of 650 to 700 athletes from Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for March 1 and the meet will culminate on March 6.
Dequiña noted that, prior to the opening ceremony, athletes and coaches are expected to arrive in the city for pre-regional activities, including their solidarity day.
EARLY REGISTRATION
Meanwhile, DepEd has commenced its Early Registration Program to facilitate early enrollment for Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 7 students.
The agency is urging parents to take advantage of this program to ensure their children are enrolled before the start of the new school year.
The early registration period began on January 31 and will end on February 27.
Dequiña further stressed that the end of school year rites for 2025-2026 will be on March 30 and 31.*
