Bacolod City will join the regionwide launching of Measles-Rubella Oral Polio Vaccine (MR OPV) supplemental immunization activity campaign on Feb. 1.
The simultaneous kickoff activity will start at 9:30 a.m. in the city and provincial health offices, that will feature a ceremonial vaccination of a child to be done by a health worker.
Dubbed “Chikiting Ligtas”, the MR OPV SIA campaign, organized by the Department of Health – Western Visayas Center for Health Development, is slated until Feb. 28.
It aims to immunize 95 percent of all children, age nine to 59 months, with measles-rubella vaccines, and all children under 5 years old with oral polio vaccines, a press release from the city said.
DOH regional director, Dr. Emilia Monicimpo said, “The vaccination campaign acts as preventive measure that guards our children from contracting these highly contagious diseases that lead to grave complications including permanent disability. “In our fight against these vaccine-preventable diseases, we need to ensure that no child is left behind unvaccinated,” she added.*
