Mayor Greg Gasataya said that the city is set to deliver 10 electric vehicles (EVs) to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) by early April, providing each local police station with its own eco-friendly patrol unit.
The mayor highlighted that the transition to electric vehicles is a very timely response to the ongoing surge in fuel and gasoline prices.
By shifting to EVs, the city aims to maintain high operational mobility for law enforcement without being hampered by rising fuel costs.
“Each station will receive one additional unit, which will significantly boost police visibility and improve response times across the city,” Gasataya said.
The mayor added that the City Planning and Development Office, the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office, and the Office of the Building Official, are also slated to acquire electric cars.
Those departments will utilize the EVs primarily for field inspections, addressing the recurring challenge of high fuel consumption.
Gasataya noted that while the discussions for the transition began last year, the deployment comes at a critical moment as the city grapples with global oil price volatility.*
