In celebration of the disaster resilience month, the Bago City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) and the Negrosanon Young Leaders Institute brought together representatives from various youth sectors in the city, aiming to empower youth leaders to be committed to shaping a disaster-resilient future.

Embodying the theme “Next Generation Resilience: Powered by Gen Z,” the city’s Local Youth Development Council (LYDC), Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials, and the Disaster Resiliency Youth Volunteers convened to equip themselves with knowledge and insights on disaster preparedness at the Manuel Y. Torres Memorial Coliseum and Cultural Center on Saturday.

“Disaster resilience begins with awareness, and it grows stronger through unity and compassion. This is the essence of service with love and respect—a kind of service rooted in love for people and deep care for the community,” Bago City Mayor Marina Javellana-Yao said in her remarks.

The activity served as a platform for the city to empower, inspire, and nurture youths, particularly leaders, to lead their respective areas of responsibility in times of disaster.

“I stand with you in this shared mission. May we continue to build a culture of preparedness, where every home, every barangay, and every heart beats with the readiness to protect and serve one another,” she accentuated.

Present in the activity were Bago City Councilor Jozsef Mark Dexter Somcio, who serves as the SP Chairman on Disaster Risk Reduction Management, Local Youth Development Office Head Allan Seneres, and DRRMO Head Dr. Merijene Ortizo.

The event featured discussions and applications of disaster resiliency, highlighting the crucial role of the new generation in community-based disaster risk reduction and management efforts.

Simultaneously, Valladolid Municipal DRRMO conducted a first aid training and disaster preparedness orientation for the Boy Scouts of the Philippines-Valladolid National High School chapter, aimed to empower them with life-saving skills.

The National Disaster Resilience Month is held every month of July in accordance with the Executive Order No. 29, to foster a deeper culture of resilience during hazards and calamities in the country.*
