Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson turned over farm mechanization equipment, worth a total of P3,920,000, to the Calumangan Integrated Farmers and Farm Workers Association in Brgy. Calumangan, Bago City, yesterday.

The farmer-association received a tractor, rice planter, and harvester, intended to increase rice production at a lower cost, utilizing the mechanized farming system, a press release from the Capitol said.

The association has more than 200 farmer-members, and has a total of 300 hectares of farm.

The activity started with a blessing of the farm equipment and ceremonial turnover, witnessed by CALIFWA officers and members, led by its chairperson, Susan Petallana, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist OIC Dina Genzola, Bago City executive assistant to the mayor Caloy Mondia, councilors and other local officials.

The farmers expressed their gratitude to Lacson and the provincial government for granting the project to them.

They said that they are always supportive of the provincial government’s program and share the same vision related to food security and poverty alleviation in the agriculture sector.

Lacson said that farm mechanization is the trend today that upgrades the rice production process, thereby increasing the income of farmers with low production cost.

He advised the farmers to take good care of the project and be keen about the maintenance of the equipment for the good of their association and livelihood.

The project, implemented through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, is in line with the Food Security Program of the provincial government, the press release added.*
