Bago the next ‘big thing’ in Negros – mayor

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

With lots of investments coming in, Mayor Marina “Mayette” Javellana-Yao disclosed on March 30 that Bago City will be the next “big thing” in Negros Occidental.

While she did not elaborate further on the numerous business projects, Javellana-Yao said it includes windmills and hydro power projects, Robinsons and Jollibee, establishments of national offices, while other investors are looking for spaces, and many more.

This will create more jobs for Bagonhons, she added.

Javellana-Yao also created a task force to help owners of resorts in the hinterlands of Brgy. Mailum, a tourist destination area in Bago City, to secure the necessary permits for their full swing operations.

The Bantayan Park at the población, which is getting lots of tourists, will be further improved, as the Bago City government reopened the Buenos Aires Mountain Resort, following major renovations.

Almost nine months after she assumed office as Bago City chief executive, Javellana-Yao said Bagonhons have already benefited from several projects and programs she had implemented, such as the establishment of satellite offices to ensure delivery of essential services, deployment of City Hall employees in the barangay.

To strengthen health services, the administration of Javellana-Yao hired 21 doctors and eight nurses.

With education among her priorities, Javellana-Yao said 20 percent of the development fund has been allocated for Bago City College, where she is planning to construct a dormitory, including a training center accredited by TESDA.

We are here because of the people, and we serve no one else, but the people with love, with compassion, and with a heart that beats only for the Bagonhons, declared the mayor.

Javellana-Yao also said that she has a “good relationship” with Representative Jeffrey Ferrer, who is very supportive in all projects she implemented in Bago City.

Javellana-Yao, who ended the 59-year-old reign of a political dynasty in Bago City, stressed that “change does not happen overnight, but we were able to spearhead programs that are very close to my heart, and that the heartbeat of my administration will always be love.”*
