Several local coffee shops in Cadiz City participated in the first Coffee 101 Barista training held at Terrace Garden Restaurant on July 11-12, with Christian Marc Romay, an entrepreneur with seven years of experience in the coffee industry, as the resource person during the two-day training.
On the first day of training, Romay talked about the history of coffee, coffee as a plant, stages of planting, post-harvest processing, and the different roast levels.
He also demonstrated how to use a coffee grinder and the different coffee brewing methods, including the manual pour over.
Participants were also allowed to try brewing coffee themselves.
Lyndon Astorga, founder of SystemsGenius Tech Solutions Provider, also presented his software that provides a POS system to coffee shop owners.
On the second day training, local coffee shop baristas and owners learned from Romay about things to consider when brewing coffee, parts of an espresso machine, and the manual brewing of coffee.
The participants also had the opportunity to make their own hot and iced beverages during the hands-on training on the use of an espresso machine.
The training was made possible through the partnership of the Department of Trade and Industry with Dexter Casumpang, Negosyo Center Senior Business Counselor, and the Cadiz City government through its Sangguniang Panlungsod with the chairmanship of Councilor Vincent Escalante on Commerce, Trade, Industry, and Economic Enterprises, and the Investment Promotion and Other Economic Enterprise Division (IPOEED) headed by Lyn Regodos.*
