Negros Occidental Third District Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez yesterday joined the launching of Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela at the Talisay Elementary School in Talisay City.

In his speech, Benitez, also the Commissioner of the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM), reemphasized his call for Bayanihan within and amongst education stakeholders to overcome the challenges faced by the education sector.

The solon said EDCOM and DepEd cannot do it alone, noting that policymakers at national and local levels, teachers, parents, the business sector, and civil society, should help one another, for the education of children.

Brigada Eskwela is an annual event organized by the Department of Education, running from August 14 to August 19 this year. It aims to gather volunteers and education stakeholders to clean and repair school facilities in preparation and support Basic Education for the upcoming academic year.

Classes will start August 29.

Benitez was joined by DepEd officials, Board Member Andrew Montelibano and Talisay City Mayor Neil Lizares.*
