The City Government of Bago kicked off the celebration of the National Arts Month with its Baylan Arts Festival at Bantayan Park, Barangay Poblacion in Bago City, Negros Occidental Monday.
The event is also part of the 59th Charter Anniversary of Bago City.
This year, the Kurit Baylan, now in its 5th year, again showcased the talents of Bagonhons through “Pinta sa Banig” and Kurit Kids tote bag painting competition.
About 10 local amateur artists participated in Pinta sa Banig competition, a free-style painting competition of Bago City history on a banig canvas. Mariel Mae Magbanua won first place in this year’s competition, while JB Maridable and Welfredo Roquim won second and third places, respectively.

Ten grade school artists participated in the Kurit Kids -Tote Bag painting competition. It is a free-style painting competition of Bago City’s heritage through a child’s perspective using a tote bag as a canvas. The winners for the category were Martuna Obinsa Psalmiel – first place, while Keziah Andura and Dimmeh Clarito bagged second and third places, respectively.
The winners received cash prizes during the awarding ceremony which was presented by Bago City Senior Tourism Operations Officer Mae Ann Furtos.
This year’s National Arts Month theme is “Ani ng Sining, Diwa at Damdamin.”*
