The newly installed officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City Police Office yesterday proposed the giving of rewards to witnesses of crimes.
PCol. Joeresty Coronica, BCPO officer-in-charge, said he believes that such a scheme will hasten the solution of crimes, by encouraging the cooperation of witnesses.
In his first media briefing at the BCPO headquarters, Coronica said that while Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez agrees to it, the amount of cash rewards and its implementing guidelines have yet to be ironed out.
The new BCPO OIC asked Bacolodnons to give him time to study all the crimes that have recently taken place in the highly urbanized city.
A spate of killings took place in Bacolod City, a month before Coronica assumed the command of BCPO, many remaining unsolved as of this time.
Coronica, formerly a BCPO Station 1 commander and police chief of Silay City, also said that he will further strengthen the campaign against illegal drugs, and robbery and theft incidents, among others.
He also raised the possibility of initiating a reshuffling among BCPO police commissioned officers, after an assessment of their respective performances.*
