The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is set to relocate its Police Station 9 from Barangay Sum-ag to Barangay Cabug, establishing a permanent office aimed at providing more accessible, responsive, and people-centered policing.
The Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), in collaboration with the City Government of Bacolod, conducted the groundbreaking ceremony yesterday for the P9 million permanent Police Station 9 in Barangay Cabug.
Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya announced that the land for the new station was donated by the government to the Philippine National Police (PNP), while the funding for the construction of the facility was provided by the PNP.
The 240-day construction of PS9 is envisioned to improve response times and bring police services closer to the community, particularly in densely populated and developing areas of Bacolod City.
PBrig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR Director, stated that the activity went beyond a simple groundbreaking; it laid the foundation for a police service characterized by strength, responsiveness, and compassion in the city and the region.
He further emphasized that the construction of PS9 reflects the belief that effective policing begins with a system that supports its personnel. He noted that a police station is not merely a structure but a place where duty and service to the people start, thereby strengthening public trust.
Once completed, PS9 is expected to enhance BCPO’s operational capabilities by providing adequate office space, custodial facilities, and areas dedicated to community engagement and frontline services. It will also improve visibility and patrol coverage, contributing to the sustained peace and order in the community.*
