Bacolod City Lone District Representative Alfredo Abelardo Benitez is aggressively pursuing the city-wide implementation of underground cabling as a critical long-term strategy for disaster resilience.
He stressed that burying utility cables prevents damage and service interruptions to electricity and internet during strong typhoons.
“Underground cable is a long term solution for us to be resilient, this is not just to remove the spaghetti wires,” he said.
The installation of underground cabling has already begun along Lacson Street and is expected to be completed by next month.
Benitez has requested city councilors to ensure telecommunications companies comply with the existing ordinance on underground cabling.
The meeting was held to ensure those companies strictly comply with the existing ordinance that mandates underground cabling in the city.*
