Mayor Greg Gasataya said on Friday that the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) is now investigating the reports of scammers posing as garbage collectors to solicit illegal donations from residents.
The directive comes after several complaints reached BENRO regarding various groups and individuals posing as their personnel.
“It serves as an awareness to our fellow citizens to not be easily swayed, especially by what you see on social media, as not everything is correct,” Gasataya said, noting that the solicitation letter circulating looks fake.
The group has allegedly been going house-to-house in various barangays, soliciting cash contributions under the pretense of helping a hospitalized colleague.
BENRO Officer-in-Charge Atty. Allyn Luv Dignadice already clarified that neither the City Government nor International Solid Waste Integrated Management Specialist Inc. has authorized any individual or organization to collect money from the public.*
