An ordinance amending City Ordinance No. 1056, to increase the monthly allowance of barangay health workers (BHWs) in Bacolod City, was recently passed by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod on first reading.
Authored by Councilor Em Ang, the measure said City Ordinance No. 956, enacted in 2021, provided a monthly allowance to barangay health workers (BHWs) in Bacolod City, recognizing their invaluable services. This was later amended by C.O. No. 1056 in 2023, increasing the BHW allowance.
The cost of living has increased significantly since the enactment of the ordinance, necessitating an adjustment in the allowance to ensure that the barangay health workers are fairly compensated, it said.
It is the policy of the city government to support and recognize the contributions of barangay health workers in promoting public health and welfare, the ordinance said.
The proposed ordinance amends Section 1 of C.O. No 1056 to read as: The barangay health workers of Bacolod City will receive a monthly allowance of P10,000.*
