Bidding, Ad Hoc committees asked to shed light on P500-M Silay New Gov’t Center

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Members of the Ad Hoc and Bids and Awards committees have been asked by the Silay City Council to shed light on the controversial bidding of the P500 million New Government Center.

Their presence was requested by members of the Silay Sangguniang Panlungsod on its August 5 regular session, as the council sought updates and answers to their queries regarding the soon to be constructed New Government Center.

Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego earlier said that the bidding of the New Government Center was already concluded.

In a phone interview with Capitol beat reporters, Gallego said that if there are any questions raised about the project, they are free to file any complaints.

Councilor Maximo Javelona said a resolution was passed by the City Council on July 15, requiring BAC and Ad Hoc committee members to attend the session, after they ignored the invitation of the SP to attend its previous session.

The P500 million New Government Center, to be constructed in Hacienda Maquina, Barangay Rizal, Silay City, is among the major infrastructure projects of the Gallego administration in Silay City.

Other major infrastructure projects under his administration also include the ongoing construction of the Silay City College and the renovation of the public market, each with a budget of P300 million.*
