Big Bad Wolf book sale returns to Bacolod

• CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

OPENING. Lesley Ann Almeda and Terence Leong  Big Bad Wolf project director, and special officer to managing director, respectively, Glory Perez and Rafael Belardo Jr., 2Go Forwarding Bacolod development manager, and operations head, respectively, and Dominique Schulze,  SM City Bacolod leasing manager (l-r) at the opening of Big Bad Wolf book sale Thursday in Bacolod City*

Big Bad Wolf returned for the second time to Bacolod City, bringing with it about 2 million new titles, including those of local publishers.

The book sale opened at the Northwing of SM City Bacolod on September 20 and will run until the 29th. Admission is free.

Terence Leong, Big Bad Wolf special officer to managing director, said they chose Bacolod City because it is part of their mission to provide accessible opportunities for everyone to enjoy books.

“Our mission is to change the world one book at a time,” he said, adding that in their mission to increase literacy, they hope to get 1 million new readers in the Philippines by the end of the year.

Lesley Ann Almeda, BBW project director, said most of their local publishers are independent ones. Including them in the book sale for free, will help provide them a platform to promote their books.

Almeda said they are in 15 countries and 38 cities and that they have areas allocated for local publishers.

Lee said they have three major categories which include children’s books, fiction, and non-fiction. “I think a book can be able to impart empathy, knowledge and imagination.”

Meanwhile, Almeda is encouraging the public to purchase a book and donate it to their Red Readerhood Program which will go to the Department of Social Services and Development (DSWD). They are partnering with the DSWD which supports children from different communities. This year they supported children who were victims of the Marawi siege.

“I see this donation as a lifetime of hope. Hope for these kids, as well as hope to the people receiving and donating them,” she added.*
