Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya re-filed a proposed bill creating two legislative districts for Bacolod City last week.
Gasataya filed House Bill 297 which seeks to create the first and second Legislative Districts of Bacolod City during the first regular session of the 19th Congress.
As per the August 1, 2015 census of the Philippine Statistics Authority, Bacolod City has a population of 561,875 with an average growth rate of 1.78 percent annually, the solon said.
The apportionment of the Lone District of Bacolod City into two legislative districts has become a matter of necessity and is mandated by the highest law of the land, Gasataya said.
It is to ensure that efficient and effective public service is rendered to the whole populace of Bacolod City, that the city has adequate representation in Congress and so that Bacolod City receives its fair share of the national government’s resources, he added.
Gasataya has been pushing for the redistricting of Bacolod City since 2016.*
