Re-elected Vice Mayor Mary Ann Mirasol yesterday said that she is ready to work with Mayor Emmanuel Aranda for “good governance,” and for the betterment of Binalbagan town.
Her husband, incumbent Mayor Alejandro Mirasol, lost to Aranda in the mayoralty race during the May 12 elections. The former’s term of office as mayor ends at noon of June 30.
Aranda had been defeated by Mirasol in two previous elections, but managed to split the couple in the recent polls.
Vice Mayor Mirasol said that the Sangguniang Bayan will not serve as an obstructionist to the Aranda administration, stressing their respective functions are as executive and legislative branches of the local government unit.
“We will work with him. But if he tries something fishy, I am sorry,” said Vice Mayor Mirasol, who took her oath office, along with five other elected councilors of Binalbagan, before Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson on Monday at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City.
Majority of the members of the elected Sangguniang Bayan members of Binalbagan are allied with her, including the five councilors, along with representatives of the Liga ng mga Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan. Another councilor is set to join them, she added.
Vice Mayor Mirasol admitted that she entertains thoughts of retiring from politics, with her husband.
But the people have given me another mandate. I will serve the people to the best of my ability, until the end of my term, she stressed.*
