The Revenue District Office 78, south Negros Occidental headed by Revenue District Officer (RDO) Richard Oquendo, conducted a tax campaign and tax update seminar recently in Bago City attended by taxpayers from the city and the municipality of Pulupandan.
In his welcome remarks, Oquendo expressed that for taxable year 2025, it has collected P63.5 million from the Bago City government through the leadership of Bago Mayor Marina Javellana-Yao and P4.96 million from the Municipality of Pulupandan thru the leadership of Pulupandan Mayor Miguel Antonio Peña.
Oquendo also acknowledged that his Revenue District Office 78 surpassed its previous year’s actual collection. RDO then encouraged the taxpayers’ support to the government for the taxable year 2026.
The seminar focused on four main topics. Tax obligations of registered business taxpayers were discussed by Revenue Officers (RO) Michael Luberas and John Hazel Siason, while RO Jay-Ann Monserate guided the taxpayers in using the BIR eServices, such as the Online Registration and Updated System (ORUS), Electronic Filing and Payment System (eFPS), Electronic One-Time Transaction (eONETT), eBIRForms, etc. Also discussed were the basic documents required during the Tax Compliance Verification Drive.
The seminar also touched on Republic Act No. 11976 or the Ease of Paying Taxes (EOPT) Act, discussed by Revenue Officer Princess Camille Guarra covering the removal of the registration fee effective January 22, 2024, taxpayer classification into micro, small, medium and large taxpayers, online filing and payment of taxes, use of accrual method in the computation and payment of taxes, the use of invoice as primary proof of transaction.
The topics on RA Nos. 12214, 12023, and use of electronic Business One-Stop Shop (eBOSS) were taken up by Group Supervisor Reynaldo Omandac Jr.
The lecture also focused on the salient features of RA No. 12214 or the Capital Markets Efficiency Promotion Act (CMEPA), which in summary simplified and rationalized the tax rates on passive income such as interest income and dividends.
While RA No. 12023 or the VAT on Digital Services, means that all digital services supplied over the internet or electronic networks such as streaming subscriptions, cloud storage, online advertising, software services, online marketplaces, and other digital goods are now subject to 12 percent Value-Added Tax.
The event was successfully facilitated by Revenue Officers Maika Era Legaspi, Karen Joy Cuaterno, and Jona Faye Dela China while Rosie Jane Secuya, Chief of the Client Support, wrapped up the seminar emphasizing the importance of paying the correct taxes due in order for the BIR to achieve its mission for nation building and upliftment of the lives of every Filipino.
