BY ADRIAN P. NEMES III

It was lower than we expected, Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said on the decrease of business registration in the city last year compared to 2019.

Leonardia said the eight percent reduction was lower compared to what they had been anticipating.

In fact, he said, this shows resiliency in the city’s business sector because, during the onset of the pandemic, they were expecting that business registration will drop by at least 20 percent.

The Business Permits and Licensing Office records showed that there were 25,637 registered businesses in Bacolod in 2019 and only 23,545 last year, for a total reduction of 2,092 or at least 8 percent.

BPLO head Stela Rose Rayos attributed the decrease to the pandemic, considering that many establishments were forced to shut down while others had not resumed operations since the lockdowns were implemented back in March.

Meanwhile, business owners are advised to register before the deadline on March 31 so they could avail of the 10 percent discount.

They are asked to register at the ongoing Bacolod Business One-Stop-Shop (BOSS) at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central that started on Jan. 4.

Some 300 clients can be accommodated in a day, and registrants are required to set an appointment.

Business owners and operators may secure appointment online through the website https://ols3.bacolodcity.gov.ph/, while walk-in applicants may directly set an appointment at the BPLO, or at the city booth located at the ground floor of Ayala Malls Capitol Central.

Representatives from the Bureau of Fire Protection are at the ground floor of the mall while representatives from other government offices are at the fourth floor.

Each barangay has two personnel to process and issue clearances that are requirements for business registration. Participating government offices at the BOSS are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with no noon break.*
