Bongbong Villan Corporation marks its 40th anniversary with a plan to construct two more buildings within the year, in its compound in Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City.

Reynaldo “Bongbong” Villan Jr. and his wife, Lomer, founders of BongBong’s Piaya and Barquillos, led the groundbreaking and laying of time capsules for the Nena’s Building, and the Research and Development Building on October 17.

The Nena’s building is named after Lomer Villan’s 82-year-old mother, while the Research and Development building is for their daughter who wants to come home from abroad to help develop their business.

Joining the ground breaking rites were the couple’s son, Richmond Ryan Villan and his wife, engineers Dan Lilla and Jeffrey Padilla, Toots Jimenez, and Negros Press Club president Erwin “Ambo” Delilan.

Lomer disclosed that it was her mother, Nena, who encouraged her husband to learn how to make piaya just like their neighbor.

So, it was in 1984 when Bongbong Villan prepared to venture into piaya making with a capital of P1,800, an empty bottle of 7-up as his rolling pin, and a borrowed stove.

Today, the family provides employment to about 600 workers to help their company meet the needs and demands of their consumers for the production of one million piaya every week.

The construction of two more buildings by the company will help provide more employment to residents of Bacolod City.*
