National Book Week 2023 unfolded at the VMA compound in Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod City recently, under the resonant theme “Read, Reread, and Relive,” channeling the enduring essence of literature, a press release from VMA said.
Pastor Randy Mahilum, in a compelling morning address, centered on The Doctrina Christiana and in the afternoon exhibition of Korean Calligraphy Obra Maestra by Senior High School students under the guidance of Korean language trainor and adviser, Rod Bomban.
VMA president Elizabeth Salabas acknowledged the vital role of the library book club and campus ministry, pivotal to the kick-off on November 28.
The festivities extended with a Book Donation Drive at Barangay Sum-ag Elementary School on November 29. Salabas expressed gratitude to volunteers, highlighting their steadfast commitment to advancing literacy. Partnering with Sum-ag National High School, successive sessions enriched students at various educational levels in Barangay Sum-ag.
Guest speaker George Dela Cruz shared literary insights with Senior High School students, while the Book Club made a lasting impact through storytelling sessions with Daycare and Elementary students. The event featured diverse activities, showcasing the talents of VMA Poseidon dancers and nurturing a love for reading among students.
Remedios Johanna Vargas, vice president for Academic Affairs, recognized the efforts of the chief librarian, Jona Macaranas, head of Community Extension Development, Chester John Ferrer, with unwavering assistance of the library book club, Campus Ministry, Community Extension Assistant head , Joyce Ann Padilla, Kapawa Volunteers, PCGA 602nd CGAS, Bacolod Host Leos’ and Lions’ Club, and the VMA faculty and heads of Department for their dedication, emphasizing the collaborative efforts that contributed to the celebration’s memorable success.
