BTAO impounds 14 vehicles

• CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

Fourteen vehicles were impounded by personnel of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) Monday, during the first day of implementation of clamping and towing measures to address illegal parking along the city’s major thoroughfares.

BTAO head Police Major Junji Liba said this initiative aims to instill discipline among operators of public utility vehicles, private cars, and tricycles.

He said the 14 vehicles that were towed included private cars, a delivery van, motorcycle, and tricycle.

Liba said that they conducted an information drive two weeks ago to inform the public on measures they are taking to address the problem of illegal parking.

Impounded vehicles were brought to the impounding area located between 15th and 16th streets. The BTAOs operation covers the area from Lacson Extension to the border of Brgy. Bata.

The BTAO has deployed several teams from the north to the south to ensure smooth implementation of the new regulations.

City Ordinance 1035 provides for Tow-Away Zones, indicating that any instance of illegal parking in the city constitutes a violation of the rules, and vehicles may be towed at any time.*
