BTAO preparing to enforce ‘no barrier, no back-riding’

BY SHIELA G. GELERA

The Bacolod City Traffic Authority Office is preparing to implement the “no barrier, no back-riding” policy for motorcycles starting August 1, P/Lt. Col. Luisito Acebuche, BTAO head, said yesterday.

Motorcycle riders are given until July 31 to install barriers for pillion riding, as ordered by the National Inter Agency Task Force against Covid-19, Acebuche said.

He said only spouses and live-in partners are allowed to back-ride. They should show documents such as a marriage contract or a certification from their respective barangays proving that they are indeed married or living together.

Those caught violating the policy may face charges under Bacolod City Executive Order 31, with a fine of P500 for the first offense, P1,000 for second offense, and P1,500 for third and succeeding offenses, plus revocation of the driver’s license, Acebuche said.*
