The Bacolod Traffic and Transport Management Department (BTTMD) has clamped five vehicles since it resumed its clamping operations, primarily targeting those illegally parked near hospitals.
According to BTTMD officer-in-charge Atty. Reuben Mikhail Sabig, most of the clamped vehicles were found violating parking rules close to medical facilities.
While the BTTMD gives consideration for genuine emergencies, Sabig stressed that the situation must be proven.
Sabig also clarified a common misconception, stating that vehicles can be clamped for illegal parking even if there is no red paint marking on the curb.
The BTTMD has already painted red zones in various locations, including Lacson and Burgos streets in front of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital and along BS Aquino Drive.
He explained that, according to the city ordinance, the red marks are specifically for designating a “tow-away zone.”
The BTTMD is still processing the purchase of its own tow truck for towing operations and assistance.
“The purpose is to discipline the people,” Sabig said.
For violators, the clamping fee is P600 for sedan-class vehicles, P800 for medium-sized vehicles, and P1,000 for heavy vehicles.*
