The renowned dried fish industry of Cadiz City in Negros Occidental is expected to get a boost with the construction of common use facility for agricultural and non-agri products, disclosed Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. yesterday.

Escalante, who was joined by Rep. Alfredo Marañon III, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, Manapla Mayor Manuel Escalante Jr., Sagay City Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva and Board Member Samson Mirhan in the blessing and formal opening of the newly constructed P6.5 million Cadiz City pavilion at the Panaad Park in Bacolod City, said that the city government has purchased an 11-hectare property to be used a site for the Cadiz Common Use Facility.

The property is located beside the P200 million sport complex, which is currently being constructed, he added.

Almost 70 associations, including local producers, organized by Escalante, will occupy the common use facility. Individually, they are facing common problems in packaging their products and sanitation, among others.

In this facility, they can bring in their finished products for shipment, Escalante said.

Noting a huge demand for dried fish, during the Negros Trade Fair, as well as in the local market, the mayor said they are now improving its packaging.*
